Chasing the Customer … Quirky

David Subsumes Goliath ?

Will one great American

iconic brand be replaced with another?

GE Logoquirky

It may seem a little quirky, but that probably defines American business today. Quirky, a startup company, profiled in my June 20th piece, only 55 days ago, on STORY is now making a bid to buy General Electric’s venerable appliance business.

What’s really amazing is that Quirky really is a startup company. It was founded in 2009 and has had around $80 million in invested capital. They are attempting to buy a very complex company with $8.3 billion in revenue … using borrowed money. Only in America!

The  Quirky concept is that ordinary people submit ideas for something they would like to buy someday. Quirky investigates, develops, and brings selected products to market.

Looks like Jeff Immelt is undoing everything Jack Welch put together.
